Wilderness Rwanda has opened Wilderness Bisate Reserve, an exclusive sister lodge to its Wilderness Bisate Lodge, in the eco-tourism operator’s private concession adjoining Volcanoes National Park.

Sleeping a maximum of just eight guests, the new lodge offers four luxurious thatched villas, featuring expansive living areas with fireplaces and private decks with hot tubs. Each villa offers unobstructed 360-degree views of all six of the Virunga mountain range’s dormant volcanoes. Guests have the option of enjoying tailored in-room spa treatments and private dining experiences.

Facilities at the lodge include a mud-room to prepare for gorilla trekking, a climate-controlled wine tower and multiple private seating areas, including the exclusive Bisate Kwanda day lounge.

Gorilla trekking is the star attraction with additional activities including golden monkey trekking, mountain climbing and hiking to the ruins of Dian Fossey’s research centre. Guests also have the opportunity to engage with local communities and experience a live painting session with local artist Rigobert Uwiduhaye whose gorilla artwork adorns the lodge.

Wilderness has planted more than 100 000 trees in the Bisate Concession, transforming the 42ha area from agricultural land into a reforested ecosystem.
