Mashatu to launch sleepout hide

Mashatu in Botswana’s Northern Tuli Game Reserve is developing the Lala Limpopo sleepout hide due to launch in October.

The exclusive overnight photography experience was established through a partnership with concessionaire C4 Photo Safaris and co-founded by Shem Compion, a professional photographer. The newly constructed hide has been strategically placed in the ground to seamlessly blend in with the surrounding scenery.

The waterhole previously known as Pete’s Pond will offer vast wildlife activity for photography. Innovative, non-intrusive lighting is being introduced around the waterhole to ensure the best conditions for daytime and nocturnal activity, including sensors to alert guests of activity during the night and a full control panel enabling adjustment of side, front and back lighting as well as colour temperature angle.

Encouraging all equipment, Mashatu said photographers should use lenses from wide-angle (16-35mm) to ultra-zoom (up to 500/600mm) with fast lenses preferred for night photography.

Lala Limpopo will accommodate up to four guests with a kitchen, lounge, bathroom, separate bedroom for the guide, editing facilities and a small outdoor courtyard.

It can be booked as an additional activity for guests staying at one of Mashatu’s camps including Euphorbia Mashatu, Kolokolo Safari Home, Mashatu Lodge, Tuli Safari Lodge Mashatu, Mashatu Tent Camp and Shalimpo Safari Home.

Lala Limpopo and the other hides in Mashatu will close from December until the end of February 2025 over the rainy season and will reopen from March 1 next year.
