US carrier Delta Air Lines has announced the upgrade of aircraft used on flights between Atlanta and Johannesburg and Cape Town, to cater for increased demand for premium services from US travellers.

The airline will upgrade its flights to a higher-premium configuration Airbus 35H A350-900, effective from June 20 for Johannesburg and from September 9 for Cape Town. Delta currently offers 10 weekly flights to the two South African cities.

The 35H configuration will result in eight additional Delta One Suites (the airline’s highest-fare category) being added to the routes, bringing the total number of suites to 40 per flight. The configuration also features 40 Premium Select (premium economy) recliners, 36 Comfort+ extra-leg-room seats and 159 standard economy seats.

The Delta One service offers lie-flat seats, complimentary access to Delta Sky Club and use of Sky Priority services.
